Digital Coast

A_new_direction_create_jobs

16th September 2011, 6pm – 8pm

With a confident and growing digital sector in Brighton, the city’s digital future seems assured. Brighton’s global reputation as a cultural hotspot means employers can reach out to a university educated global talent pool to expand capacity. But where does this leave local young people many of whom face increased barriers to higher or further education and employment?

By bringing together employers, sector development agencies, educators and others with an interest in ensuring Brighton produces the talent that can keep the digital sector strong, Digital Coast will explore the need for a joined up digital progression environment for Brighton.

Digital Coast will start with a case study about the growing success of Create Jobs in East London. We will then ask if there is a need to ensure local young people get access to local jobs or should the digital sector be left to its own devices? If intervention is needed then what kind of support do digital employers need to engage more effectively with local young people?
